Alan webber ,possibly one of the best wigan anglers ever
I agree Alan was the best Wigan Angler of that era,when bloodworm was king.
He won all Wigan matches in the same year, great guy too and great friend.
What a cracking photograph John. Some very (young ) familar faces.
I worked with Alan as part of my apprenticeship in Summer 1975. Talk about Billy Whizz .He did everything at 100 mph.
Every morning he`d spend 15 minutes in a pond scraping the bottom for bloodworm before work and every dinner hour he`d find a stretch of canal or river to fish.
I`m not an angler myself but he was fascinating to watch.
Happy days indeed.
I am the one on the left ! Great to see this old photo ! My mates and wife are stunned this made it onto Wigan World ! It probably came from the Wigan Post who had John Weedon as their angling journalist. He did a great job with his weekly reports.Thank you ! Keep up the good work!
