Derek, another brilliant photo. i think the photo was taken on the Rec. in Worsley Mesnes behind the Tippings Arms and the Bold Hotel. The Pemberton Loop Line is in the background.
I'm told that the Potteries Rugby League Club was instrumntal in the formation of Blackpool Borough. I'm sure Gerry Collingwood had some connection. I see his brother, Bob, occasionally in the Tippings or Worsley Mesnes Club.
Derek, any more photos in your loft?
Definitely looks like the Rec, but I don't remember that much grass on it in the 1960's, it was almost like playing on cinders. Great photo Derek
ken clarke is my grandma brother i can see the family resemblence. thanks for sharing first photo i have seen of him
that team had some talent, couldnt have lost many matches.
Is that TERRY DUNN 2nd left middle row ?
Is that TERRY DUNN middle row 2nd in on the left
It would be pre 1954 Derek, as David Bolton was at Wigan in 54.
I agree, Roy. I would say this was circa 1953 early 54. The reason being when Blackpool Borough were admitted to the rugby league they had to hastily assemble a team. Chris Brockbank signed six players from Pottery RLFC. Borough played their first game in August 1954. I have a photo of that first Borough team and none of these players are on it, although there are some Wigan lads on it whom I knew.
Jim : correct, taken on rec. behind Tipping Arms. Team used Tippings as a changing room. Many went to Blackpool B pretty sure Gerry C was one.
Horace : Did you play for Potteries?
Julie : Glad you enjoyed, will try to find more info for you .
Mark : Do believe your right, I remember the name.
Roy : Agree, Dave B I'm pretty sure signed for Wigan in 1954 and played for 10 years? before moving on.to Australia?
Ive just had a look at two old photo's that I inherited from my dad.The quality is not good as they are newspaper photos of Blackpool Borough (first team and "A" team circa 1955/56) There is a player named Cotton on one of them but I don't know if its the same gentleman that is in the above photo.
Brian I had not seen the photo under Pottery RLFC, thanks for filling in more of the names.
B Fletcher-would that be Barry?
Carole I have the original you are quite welcome to a copy, are you related to Harry Green?
Julie Smith - Ken Clarke was my father - obviously we're related. Please contact me on davidclarkegolf@hotmail.co.uk
Yes Derek Harry Green is my Dad he died quite young in 1978.
