Lived opposite Spring View Police Station, mid 1935 to mid 1938. At that time a railway line crossed over Warrington Road,and a steam engine took wagons to a works about five hundred yards to the rear of our house. We lived in the last terraced house next to the railway line, although I was only a small child at the time, I can remember the engine driver taking me up onto the footplate. There was very little traffic at that time,no traffic barriers, only a chap with a red flag to hold up any possible traffic.
