Peter Kane worked as an apprentice blacksmith at the smithy on the corner of the road leading to Culcheth. The smithy belonged to my sons great grandfather and he told me the tale of how some travelers came in the smithy and Peter did some work on their horses and they refused to pay so he flattened them and when the old man came in had them in a corner to scared to move.the old man was impressed and told him to take some boxing lessons and he would pay and thats how he got into boxing,Don't know how true this is but i know Peter Kane always visited the smithy and kept in touch with my sons grandfather up to his death, unfortunately i never met him but i know the old man went to a lot of his fights.
the gentleman to the right of peter is dave cotton,he also lived in golborne,he is the father of fran cotton the england rugby union forward.
Good Pic of the late Mr and Mrs Kane with Mr Cottom lived near me and letus not forget Mr C.Dunne all these good people have now pass on.
