What a player - what a record at Wigan. In the 5 years he was at Wigan they won the Challenge Cup twice, the Championship twice and the Lancashire Cup five times. Ces was a deep thinker about the game and laments the lack of variety that exists today in tactics compared to his day, and the man behind all of Wigan's moves was the master tactician Jim Sullivan. However, no matter how good a side's tactics without great players little could be achieved and Ces is full of praise for his Wigan colleagues, Bradshaw, Ashcroft, Hilton, Ward, Lawrenson, Ryan, Egan, Gee, Ratcliffe, Nordgren and Cunliffe.
To get a better perspective of Cec's achievements, after leaving Wigan he became manager coach of Warrington, a side he steered to seven trophies and the only double of the Challenge Cup and League Championship in over 30 years. Highly regarded and respected, his success came through his talent, relentless hard work and dedication to the game. Wigan were fortunate indeed to have "The Blackball Bullet" or "The Little Red Devil" as he was sometimes known, for those 5 glorious years.
