Wigan Album

Could be 1949, April 16th, if so player on extreme right, standing might be Ritchie who played scrum half that day with Ernie Ashcroft playing stand-off. Wigan lost 10 - 11, bit of a shock but of the last 5 matches that season, again assuming I'm right, they lost 2 and drew one, won 2. Ritchie only played 9 matches for Wigan.

I made a comment on Ritchie, on the St Josephs all conquering school team. Also on this photo is Ted Slevin ( Next to Ken Gee)It was generally felt that Wigan should never have sold him.He went on to play for Huddersfield for a decade

Try 22nd October 1949. Wigan I think won 15-2 away. This would fit with Egan playing. The player stood up extreme right is Jack Large. He eventually signed for Huddersfield and played in the 1953 Challenge Cup Final. He also played in the 1950 championship final I think.

This response is some 8 and a half years late, but the obvious clue I missed was the name in the background, Widnes!
Wigan played them as Jeff says, on October 22nd, 1949. As he also says the result was a Wigan win by 15 - 2.
