Anybody who was there will never forget the day
The brilliant Kenny, the unstoppable Fergy, the smile of Gilly after running 80 yards
What a great game and Hull gave Wigan a scare at the end
This was a never to be forgotten occasion. It was nearly all standing in those days and I'll swear there were more than 100,000 in the stadium. But a brilliant day, a brilliant game and a brilliant result.
Dennis what a great photo, I remember the day very well. Jondav yes you are probably right about there being more than 100,000 in there that day. Both ends of the stadium were standing only at the time with the rest being seated. I was sat in the corner at the side of the north stand opposite to the Royal box, no they were not posh seats just planks of wood. There were people in there with tickets for seats that did not exist and was a little crammed but did not deter from the great day. The downside of the day was at the end when some fans got on the pitch and tried to ruin the team celebrations. I had waited 20 years for Wigan to parade the cup around the stadium since they last won it in 1965 against Hunslet, yes, I was at that game as well, and following the disappointment of the loss against Widnes the previous year 1984. Of course I didn't have to wait too long for the glorious 8 years
