George Fairbairn at this time was the captain and probably the best and most reliable of players during what was a not too successful period for the club. Even so George (who was signed from Scottish RU side Kelso) won numerous awards at the club and represented Great Britain on many occasions.

'Beauty queen'!
George Fairbairn played his heart out for Wigan back then and always gave his all.After being player coach for the season in Div 2 and getting promotion he was badly treated by the club and should never have been allowed to go .
