This photo and those to follow are taken from a detailed embossed scrapbook meticulously compiled on the tour by Tom Brown, former licensee of The Park Hotel in Wigan, husband of Mary. Tom was on the tour officially as a ‘visitor’ but was in fact acting unofficially as a scout for Wigan as he enrolled the services of a number of players during to the tour much to the great indignation of his hosts who labelled him a ‘poacher’! Every night in his hotel room Tom would stamp each page of the scrapbook and insert press cuttings from the tour; a lasting record indeed.

These RL photos are fantastic! But surely Mrs Brown's name was Rosetta (Zetta), not Mary. Or was she his second wife?

it was Zetta not Mary!

I always remember her calling herself Zetta, but it used to be over the pub door, "Rosina M Brown, licensed to sell" etc etc.
She used to be in the Bluebell Girls, or a similar dance troupe. Could Mary have been her middle name? Perhaps the papers got it wrong.
