That seems to be the standard image of Billy. Almost every picture I remember, including many that I shot around the northwest and at Wembly, depicted a trail of devastation from failed tackles and Billy streaking away victorious towards the line.

Billy has, in my opinion, never got the world recognition he deserves. He brought pure magic and genius every time he got the ball. Under rated and underpaid he may have been (not by us), but boy, did he give us Wiganers the thrill of a lifetime to see him do what we mortals could only dream of achieving on a rugby field.
How true, George B. I can still remember how the crowd at Central Park used to grow with excitement as the ball made its way along the back line towards Billy. There was a huge roar of "Give it Billy!" As soon as the ball reached him, he would tear off on one of his thunderous runs down the right wing, often leaving a trail of destruction behind him! And I can still hear the awe-filled gasps from the terraces whenever Billy rushed inside to complete one of his trademark crash-tackles on the opposition centre, who otherwise would have used the overlap to give his winger an easy run-in. Billy scored many memorable tries in his long career, but he also saved many tries. In my opinion, Billy Boston is the greatest sportsman ever to represent the town, and we older Wiganers owe the man a great deal. He is also one of the nicest, most unassuming men you could meet.
Billy, Simply the best, better than ALL the rest, True gentleman in every sense,
