Would that be Barry Critchley???

Comment by: Jim Latham on 25th February 2012 at 06:01

I recognise Barry Critchley, captain, holding the ball. He was on Wigan's books from 1960 to 1962, making 5 appearances, scoring 1 try and 4 goals.

The Captain is definitely Barrie Critchley. In 1956 he would have been aged 14yrs.

what a good rugby school. at st.thomas more i cannot think why three town team players were not on this great team they were bobby edwards, jackies brother also brian fitsimmons, john lannon, not to forget johnny meehan , who was captain all through st cuthberts and captain at thomas more for the 13s side and vice captain for the seven aside team. what a player johnny meehan was he played his heart out every game, so sad.

To anyone that remembers my brother John Walls. Sadly he passed away earlier this month. Sadly missed.

I signed for Wigan in 1958 to 1964

In response to Uncle Fester’s comment, the reason they didn’t play in that team is because they left school at Christmas, a brilliant team was split up owing to this.
