Boston; McTigue; Mather; Armstrong; ?; ?;?;
Nordgren; Parr; Broome; Ashcroft; Platt; Bolton. Extreme right on back row could be Hudson???

Comment by: ken on 16th January 2012 at 14:02

I think the three on the back row are Frank Griffen Harry Street and Jim Featherstone.

REMEMBER THIS TEAM VERY WELL,MY COUSIN RONNIE MATHER HE PASSED AWAY LAST YEAR

Comment by: gideonfel on 16th January 2012 at 15:30

I might well be wrong, but the player extreme right back row looks like Jimmy Featherstone.

Comment by: Scholes Malc on 16th January 2012 at 15:50

gideonfel - you are correct it is Jim Featherstone who toured whilst at Warrington - he still lives in Hindley - his son Ian was a decent player as well

Comment by: Roy on 16th January 2012 at 16:14

When you say Parr i presume you mean Frank Parr, the player certainly has his features, but,Nordgren played his last game for Wigan in 1954 and Parr played his first game in 1960.

Tommy Parr

Comment by: gideonfel on 16th January 2012 at 18:42

I think the player's name was Tommy Parr.

How's this - Oct 9th 1954, v Widnes - won 35-5? Team, Platt, Boston, Broome, Ashcroft, Bolton. Parr, Armstrong, Mather, Grundy, Featherstone, Griffin, Street. No wonder Grundy was the only player i didn't recognise, he only played 3 times for Wigan.

Comment by: Scholes Malc on 17th January 2012 at 11:39

No Grundy on there Keith - and it wasn't Widnes!

Comment by: 1934granada on 17th January 2012 at 19:26

This maybe the Grundy that Keith mentioned. Tom Grundy played a handfull of games for Wigan and then was snapped up by Borough in their first season.
Link any one? Cheers.

Not giving much away Scholes Malc, just how a Wigan RL player should be, howabout Oct 23rd v Blackpool, won 39 -2 and the player I don't "recognise" is perhaps A Armstrong who played 75 times for Wigan and so I should have recognised him.

These were difficult years for Wigan, although they had the fabulous Billy in their ranks it would be years before they delivered any silverware.

Comment by: Scholes Malc on 17th January 2012 at 22:38

well done Keith – you astound me! it was indeed Oct 23rd 1954 against Blackpool Borough
and T. Berry and Ken got all the correct names in the first two postings!
some very knowledgeable rugby minds on here!

Comment by: gideonfel on 23rd January 2012 at 11:52

No, Bob - Tommy and Frank aren't related.
