And Bootle a suburb of Liverpool played for Wigan
Bootle was a County Borough of Lancashire in its own right - not a 'suburb' of Liverpool, any more than Wigan was, despite their close proximity.

Rev Long I am very aware that Bootle was a County Borough however it's postal address was Bootle Liverpol 20 prior to it becoming Bootle 20 Lancs.
The orignal comment I posted was a tongue in cheek based on the players name and the match against Liverpool and as somebody who was born and raised in Bootle I saw the fuuny side
Pity Geoff Bootle didn't play for Liverpool. It would have made a 3/4 line of "suburbs" & no Parsons in sight!
Was Ray Ashby sent off that day and signed for Wigan shortly afterwards.
