Thirteen of these 16 players represented Wigan at Wembley against Dewsbury who they met on May 4th 1929, winning by 13 points to 2. The team that day was Jim Sullivan (he kicked the first points in a RL Final at Wembley), Johnny Ring (still one of Wigan's best ever try scorers), Tommy Parker (these first 3 were all Welsh), Roy Kinnear (a Scottish RU International and father of the late comedian and actor of the same name, Roy was a Car Salesman in Wigan), Lou Brown (a New Zealander, who after leaving Wigan for another club developed a terminal illness, although under no obligation, the Wigan Club paid for his return journey to New Zealand, he died shortly afterwards), Arthur Binks ( a Yorkshire man from Leeds), Syd Abram (a Wiganer and the first person to score a try in a RL Final at Wembley, after a 40 yard sprint. Syd began his career by playing for Hindley St Peter's Schoolboys), Wilf Hodder (another Welshman), Jack Bennett (a Wiganer who played for Whelley Schoolboys, Wigan Maoris and in 1912 the renowned local club Pemberton Rovers, Jack was 35 years of age when he played in the 1929 Final), Tom? Beetham,(?), Len Mason ( a New Zealander), and Tom Sherrington (a Wiganer who used to play for Wellington Temperance, Scholes before signing for Wigan). Player standing 3rd in from the left is Benny Davidson, another New Zealander. Person standing extreme right at the back is Tommy McCarthy, trainer, who is worthy of a separate listing on his own.

Tom Beetham was born in Amblesside and was capped for Cumberland. He then went to play for Wigan.
