When I worked at the Co-op in Wigan town centre in the sixties Jimmy Whittle was the grocery manager there, he could well have transferred to the Orrell store at a later date.

Jimmy,my dad has sadly died now, he lived in the first terraced house at the top of Gathurst rd,next to the bike shop,dad was a regular at the grey horse for as long as i can remember. dad loved everything about wigan,if it wasnt born,bred,made or played for wigan he would say it was rubbish,thanks for the photo Bill it made me cry.

He was manager of the co-op in Fleet Street Pemberton

I have fond memories of your dad... He was wonderful company and such an amazing character too. His tales were so funny and original. Many was the time he had us all enthraled... and he ran a Ford Escort Mexico model too.
