Might not have been the best team in the Wigan Amatuer football league but we had a great time.
From left to right back row first.
Don't know, Stan Halliwell, Jimmy Ogden, Dave Keegan, Steve Astle, Peter Wood, Brian Jones, Brian Walker.
Front row, Dave Gibson (Sid), Trevor Prescott, Don't Know, Brian Derbyshire, Joe Reeves, Derek Johnson (Doctor death)

Is that the same Trevor Prescott who attended Highfield Secondary School?

I should have signed Jimmy Ogden instead of Nicky Butt; he was a far better player....until he discovered 'Sams Bar'!

Never played for this side, but the third from left FR, is Kev Critch, who also played for Whie swan in the Sunday league

is the lad on the far left Ian Crawshaw?

I played for Whelley between 1967 & 1975. Me and Sid were an awesome centre back combination. Derek J was right back. Brian Darby midfield and Brian Jones up front. Its not Ian Crawshaw, that guys too tall. Ian's nickname was Titch. Still see him odd times at the Latics. Probably season 68/69 was our best. Promotion to Div 1, there were only two divs then, Dean Cup winners and Laithwaite Shield runners up. Ian Crawshaw, Colin Baines and Phil Aspinall all scored over 30 goals each in the same season. We'd win 15 - nil, 14 - 2, then lose 1-2 to St Wilfs or Aspull. We once beat Almond Brook Celtic in the Lancs Cup when they were in their heyday, on their midden on the dreaded Ashfield slope, 5 - 1, when I got my first goal. Eight years later my tally of goals had risen to a remarkable 8.
