I think this may have been Billy's first ever try for the first team. If I'm right then it was 21st November 1953 against Barrow, Wigan won 27 - 15, and Billy scored one of our 5 tries. Second in from right is Lewthwaite the Barrow winger. Incidentally 8,000 had turned out to watch Billy's first ever appearance which was for the 'A' team in a reserve match.

Fred this is Billy 's 'A' debut try against barrow 'A'which would be 1953 I think.

Hi Keith, Billy's first game for the first team was as I said, and as you state his 'A' team appearance was against Barrow 'A' as well, on Saturday October 31st with an attendance of 8,500. They posted fly sheets advertising the game "Billy Boston Plays in This Match". Amazingly Billy only turned out 8 times in the whole of that 1953/54 season for the first team, they certainly believed in nursing them along in those days.
