Played hooker/second row for Wigan in 41 matches scoring 15 tries before transferring to Warrington. NZ All Black NO.119, at 6ft 2inch and 15 stone he was a massive physical individual for the time. He had toured with the 1905 NZ All Blacks and the 1907 All Golds. He impressed on the 1907 tour and was purchased to enhance the physicality of the Wigan pack.
