absoltely brilliant - never thought i wold ever see such a photo - peered over that wall many a time from the hen pen to see my heroes troop out - altogether now, who can whistle 'March of the Gladiators'?

did you ever jump across and squeeze your way through to kop end malc no stewards in the days eh!!!

Ste –there were three well used ways to get out of the hen pen – the most daring was to jump across the tunnel, the second was to climb over the small wall at the opposite end and the third and most common was to go down the steps to the metal gate and convince the steward that any bloke over twenty, on the opposite side, was ‘your dad’ and he would consequently let you through.
Strange when you think –they provided a secure enclosure for young supporters so that we could view the game safely and unhindered by adults and yet the first thing we did when we got in there was to plan our ‘escape’! Happy days!

I remember very well asking complete strangers "will you be me Dad please" they knew the reason, because they had probably done the same thing when they were kids, I cant remember any chap refusing

Remember the smell of Horse Liniment in tunnel.Why don't they play March Of The Gladiators these days or have Sky put a stop to it .
