This is a photo of the grave of the late Richard Ramsdale, Wigan and England rugby forward. He is buried with his sister Susannah.
Richard Ramsdale is my wife's great uncle.

According to the Wigan RLFC 1895 - 1986 records, Richard played for the club between 1905 to 1920 and played 248 games, scoring 29 tries. What a shame he died so young.

I think I am right in saying that Richard Ramsdale and Percy Coldrick played in the famous "Rorke's Drift" test match in Australia when the Britian side hung on to win despite many injued players [ no substitutes then]

You are correct both Dick Ramsdale and Percy Coldrick played in the 1914 Rorkes Drift Test

Brian his sister Margaret, buried with parents James and Susannah of Foundry Street second section on left through same cemetery gates,was my great aunt.

It appears he was wrongly reported as killed during WW1 by the Wigan Examiner during WW1 from this newspaper entry at Wigan Archives: http://archives.wigan.gov.uk/archive/first-world-war-records/wigan-newspaper-extracts-1914-1918/186801#prettyPhoto
