Waw! great pic and over 100yrs ago, I nearly said'I wish I had been there' thanks for posting it.
Johnny Thomas, who had a great career and at one time was landlord of the Royal Oak pub, told my father when he too arrived from Wales in 1938 on a 10 year contract with Wigan, "Make sure you look after your money, Jack, if I had I'd now be back in Wales", Jim Sullivan also gave similar advice. This was the era of "payments by results" and no doubt gave an extra edge to their commitment on the field. My father also became a pub landlord after his playing days finished.
Richard Ramsdale was my wife's great uncle.
I have a photo of his grave somewhere in my files and I will post it later.
This photo has just been found in my folder whilst I was checking on my family tree. The gentleman knelt on the front row(L)is my grandfather, Richard Telford, who emigrated to Canada in 1913. I now live in Pheonix, Arizona. Richard Telford was born in 1873 in Wigan. Has anyone any information as to his involvement with the rugby club?
