Top of Poole Street in Poolstock...northern end...The Honeysuckle is on the left; you can just make out the Walker's sign...

Poolstock or Swan Meadow Road, possibly?
Looks like Trencherfield Mill in background.

Comment by: orrellite on 23rd February 2010 at 15:06

I would go for Swan Meadow Road just over the Douglas looking back to Trencherfield in the background

Yes, Unsworths Coach of Goose Green and to match it, Wigan
EK reg, great combination.

Hi the reg. plate on the coach kek dates from 62 or 63. So i think the year is 1965.

Comment by: COLIN HARLOW on 6th March 2010 at 09:44

I used to have a motorcycle that was registered new in Wigan in 1961, the reg was HEK 100. In 1963, the Ministry of Transport introduced a new and much easy way to identify the age of all registered road vehicles. Starting with the letter "A" for example, HEK 123A Plate 1963, HEK 123B Plate 1964, C reg 1965, D reg 1966 and so on. The new vehicle Alphabetical plates came out 1st August 1963, and ran for a period of 12 months, August to August. In 2001, a new style plate was launched and changed twice a year, for example EK01 EEK and EK51 EEK. Personally, I think 1st January each year would give a more true reflection of age to any vehicle.

Hi Colin Wigan never used the A prefix and started with B.I Worked at Halliwells Wilcock St.at the time, and got a brand new Thames Trader.Reg.AEK 132B,JAN. OR FEB. 1964.Also B was Jan. to Jan.August to August started Aug 1967.

Comment by: COLIN HARLOW on 8th March 2010 at 19:41

Hello Tom, I stand to be corrected. From 1963, Local governments began to issue "suffix" registration marks, a number 7 digit was added to the plate. This was a letter which gave the age of the vehicle. The registration began with the letter A and ran from 1 January - 31 December.
The next year was B and so on. In 1967, It was moved to August. I hope this helps.
