Hi
bit of a long shot but ive got some relatives that are Prescotts from the wigan area. Im doing my family tree my great grandfather was William Prescott who married Elizabeth Buckley 14th March 1925. Williams father was also William and their address was 6 Vaughn Street.
Would this link in with any body in this photograph do you know? Thak you in advance x
These were the grown children of Joseph Prescott & Mary Dawson.
Joseph was from Hindley /Ince & Mary from Littleborough. The lady on the bottom row/ right was my grsndmother Elizabeth Ellen Prescott, she died in 1945.
A date for this photo would be most useful. Good links can be made to the people being mainly grown up children of Joseph/Mary Dawson - but everything is not perfect. The couple had 9 children. #1. Edmund b. 1868 d. 1901 -- #2. Thomas b. 1871 - ? -- #3 Elizabeth Ellen b. 1873 m. William Bentham - no children -- so would not be a GMother to any one. #4. John m. and left home before 1901. -- #5. Mary b. 1877 referred to as Polly? -- #6. Joseph Andrew b. 1879 simply referred to as Joseph? #7. Martha b. 1884 d. 1916. -- #8. Sarah b. 1886 -- #9. Hannah b. 1889 - referred to as Annie?. Ted in middle front row could be an uncle b. 1850 - younger brother father Joseph. The 1901 Census shows widowed Mary with the 4 girls Mary [Polly?], Martha, Sarah and Hannah [Annie?]. By 1911 mother Mary and the 4 girls were living in Coppull. Hope this helps.
Just a correction to #3 Elizabeth Ellen above - She did marry to a John Bradshaw and the couple had 5 Children. Father Joseph d. 1891 and was buried in Hindley Cemetery. Daughter #7 Martha d. in 1916 an d was buried in the same grave. Mother Mary [Dawson] d. in Jan 1922 and is also buried in the same grave. Uncle Ted also d. in 1922 but after Mary. Was the photo taken in 1922 after Mary's death? The 'd/k' [top right] might be Thomas or John, sons of Joseph/Mary or William, the son of Ted, who looked after his father at the time. #6 Joseph Andrew d. 1961 in Coppull most likely in the household of his elderly three spinster sisters who were still alive at the time.
