Hi Dave
If this is our uncle bill, he was in the Cheshire Reg, and taken prisoner by the Italians in I think North Africa,
Unfortunatly whilst being transported by ship, the ship was bombed and sunk by our own forces.
The story that I was told is that it was a hospital ship, but it wasn't displaying any red cross markings and so was attacked.
He is recorded on the El Alamein war memorial, and if you go to the war graves comm site you can view details of this.
