Thats nice to for Lucy & Richard to be remembered......
There used to be two local club singers around in the late 1950's Hughie Ainscough and Molly Fouracre.
I wonder if Molly was related?
Colin, I had wondered that myself; I never saw Molly Fouracre but remember her being a singer round the clubs. I saw Hughie Ainscough a number of times as I used to work in Bickershaw Labour Club.
Irene, Fouracre is quite a uncommon name in these parts, I have never come across that name since.
I remember Molly Fouracre singing in the Conservative Club when it was the 50th anniversary of the end of the war.
It may have been a stage name, Colin....many artistes sang under an assumed name.
There are farmers called Fouracre from Winstanley. My mate is FRED FOURACRE.
Obviously its an old name with reference to a farmer who had 4 acres of land?
Richard and Lucy (Saywell) married at St David's Haigh on March 6th 1886. Two daughters named Mary (which is often changed to Molly) were Baptised there - in December 1888 and September 1892 (so the earlier Mary would have died in infancy). I've not found any other Baptisms for the family.
Molly Fouracre's maiden name was Walsh, I believe, and her funeral was from St Cuthbert's in 2010. Her husband was Jack Fouracre.
It's possible they were related - but maybe not directly.
A cousin of mine has a daughter whose married name is Fouracre, her husband is from the Newtown/ Pemberton area.
Jack Fouracre ( Married to Molly) was their Grandson
Jack Fouracre was the only child of Richard Fouracre and Annie (Benson). Richard died in WWII- Desert Rats. Jack Fouracre Married Mary ( (Molly) Walsh in 1947.
Richard ( junior) was the 7th child of Lucy and Richard ( photo above). They had 8 children Mary ( called Polly) Ann, Tamar ( called Cissy) Lucy, Alice, Ellen Richard and John
