I found this old photo of my Dad and wondered whether anyone might recognise any girls in the photo? It's stamped with Wigan Observer on the back. Stan Ingram was manager of the Court School of Dancing on Station Road between 1960 and 1970. If anyone has contacts with The Observer maybe they might be able to date it more accurately but my guess is late rather than early 60's. If it was around 1967 and if those girls were 11 or 12 at the time they'd be in their 60's now. Stan's partner was Barbara (don't remember her second name) and she left to join the RAF. I went to the Court often to earn spending money, cleaning and washing up and it was a great place to meet girls ????. Hardly any young lads went there. Mods used to ride their scooters up Station Road past the Casino and the ABC cinema (Court school was above the ABC) and Mike Walker, who I think was ABC manager, went over the road to manage the Casino. I have a whole load of stuff I remember about the Casino best left for another day. Anyone remember Stan, Barbara or anyone else in this photo? Sadly my Dad died young. He left Wigan in 1970 to open a Dancing School in Northwich and died in 1988 at the age of 63. I'm now 64 going on 65. A lifetime away and yet so close...

Stan and Barbara taught me to dance about 1960. I am almost sure I have still got my certificates.

I have still got my certificate, it’s for junior two dance test of the ballroom branch, I think it would be for the waltz/quickstep. My favourite dance was always the quickstep. The certificate is dated 6th September 1960 which made me 12 years old. My favourite dance partner was David who was there with his friend. Happy days.

Hiya Dave, a coincidence or what? After our conflab on messenger t'other day, I asked my missus Sue did she remember you and she said straight away yes from seeing you at dancing lessons with your dad. Her maiden name was Yates. She said she was forced to go to dance classes by her parents! I've just come across this photo and showed it to her. Straight away she said Stan and Barbara. Sue isn't on the photo by the way.
