i may not have got along with all the daughters but we had a few laughs along the way but billy and doris where the very fabric that wigan was built on. They where from irish descent one catholic one C of E which caused a bit of an argument with the local priest from st josephs when he visited and said that their not married in the eyes of god so billy promptly threw him out of the house and never went to church again. Billy was severely injured in burma during the 2nd world war and had to carry a metal plate in his head for the rest of his life. He used to drive heavy machinery threw the jungles of burma transporting tanks and artillery but would never drive again in this country has he said it was too dangerous. They where people who lived in hard times that we can only imagine but they had hearts of gold .has billy had apen at the bottom of prescott st near the canal where they let an homeless guy stay and doris used to send a sunday dinner down to him, billy used to tell me all kinds of stories when he was growing up with his friends some funny but all of them seem to be an adventure

That's a very interesting story rt. I always think if there is a story behind the photo it's good to write something. What a brave man Billy was along with all the other forgotten soldiers who fought in Burma and his wife sounds as if she was a kind hearted soul as well. I found the story of the Priest's condemnation comical and he deserved to thrown out by Billy... after a war against the Japs, he wasn't standing any nonsense from a priest!
