That's the type of fireplace which was most common in the terraced houses. The one I remember had a higher mantelpiece though. (Unlike the one on PaD)

my mate colin used to go up to his farm & make his fire for him . iv,e seen his tractor parked behind tom & getty,s in ashton many a time .

The point of the photo is to show the old range fireplace. That in itself must be more than 150 yrs old! Thank you for posting Ozy it is most interesting.
It's well and good to reminisce, but I'd rather keep those coal fires in the past where they belong, and he'd need that fleece duster kept handy with all the dust coal fires create, not forgetting the pain of lighting on a freezing winters morn and the never ending task of emptying ashes. Arthur, Sherry? aghast, more probably to be a glass of the finest Scottish watter. The range looks great, though I wouldn't like the job of blackleading it with Zebo, remember how you got full of it on your hands and and if there was two blackleading it would end up on your faces too, oh such larks.

he,s ernie fithian & a farmer from garswood who sadly passed away a couple of years ago .
What you can't see: he is watching his 50" HD telly in the corner and thinking "What would I do without Sky plus?".
Edna. I still have my grandma's old sliding toasting fork. Over70 years now and still toasting but not on a fire like that. Happy carefree days in the fifties.
