I was sorry indeed to hear of Rons death , although I never meet him I felt I knew through his work on Wigan World . I was taking to someone not long ago who did know him well ,he ' said was a gentleman and a gentle man . What a lovely tribute. To Sue and his family the hundreds of photographs on the site taken by him will be of great comfort when you look at the back library. Wigan World has lost one of its best friends .R.I.P.
What a lovely gentleman he put some lovely photos of all over the wigan area, sorry to all Rons family for the loss of a nice man. God bless Ron and RIP.
So sorry to hear of Ron's passing, many people will miss his photography. A few years ago I had an idea to meet him in person. I live in Canada and used to come back to the old Country. I left a message on WigWorld and laid out my scheme, I told him of the dates that I would be there ( I was with my sister-in-law on Scot Lane ) so I told him to keep an eye open to see his front garden wall for a stranger sitting there. So after a walk one day I sat on the low wall, it was not more than 2 minutes before I heard his voice saying is that Ken, I was invited in to meet Sue and for a great cup of tea and a good chat. After that we seemed to bump into each other in other parts of Aspull and Haigh Hall. So-long old friend you will be missed.
Sue, may I offer you my sincere condolences. I can only echo the sentiments expressed above. Rest In Peace Ron.
Very sad to hear, his contributions were always so welcome.
Ron's photographs on P-a-D and in the Album are his legacy to us all, and, hopefully, to future generations. He also inspired others to root out their old snaps, or to get out and record the world around them. Thanks, Ron - rest in peace.
Ken R what a lovely memory to have of Ron... you will still see his photos though and some of his comical captions to them. He won't be forgotten as long as his beautiful pictures 'pop' up - there must be thousands, what a legacy.
My most sincere condolences to you Sue. I enjoyed Ron's many and interesting submissions to Photo-A-Day. Take care.
RIP Ron.
RIP, will be missed.
Mick, I remember your earlier concerned mention of you not having seen Ron, for a while, and here I read your touching echo of those missed, occasional meetings with him.
I agree with all that has just been said and offer my condolences to Ron's family. I never knew him but like others enjoyed his photographs. However it is so lovely to see the face and name behind the camera. Ron enjoy your new setting with lots more photo opportunities, such a shame that we cannot yet see them. Love and blessings to your family.
Sincere condolences Sue and family. I first met Ron years ago when I bought some CB radio equipment off him. We bumped into each other and had a nice chat a few times since then. A lovely man. Rest in peace Ron.
RIP Ron Dawber, your contributions are what Wigan World is all about. Many good photos and only good comments. Will be missed.
That was a wonderful innings Ron. Well played Sir.
Rest in Peace Marra.
An Aspull legend, gone but definitely never forgotten. Farewell Ron and rest in peace.
The face behind the camera,
now meets his gentle sleep,
his camera rests upon his lap,
his memory.. we now keep.
Enjoyed our chats by Top Lock. Sleep peacefully.
Ron, I have such fond memories of our trip to London on your Narrowboat, Marrow. You treated me as your own and it was such an experiance! Thankyou so much. RIP marra
