George Staveleys father was the wheelwright at Yore Mill Aysgarth East Yorkshire moving with all his family to Horwich, Aspull and Haigh Wigan by 1841 It is understood that George in photo who was employed by Haigh Foundry or his brothers William and Thomas who were steam engine fitters may have somehow been involved in the construction of the Laxey Wheel IOM or supply of ancillary machinery As in 1954 the descendants of those involved in the construction of the wheel were traced and invited to the centenary celebrations. Sydney Staveley a descendant of the Wigan branch of the Aysgarth Staveleys was invited to these celebrations It is hoped that the exact involvement of the Staveleys possible involvement will be revealed one day but for now this remains a family myth and legend
