What thoughts are they plagued with behind those eyes,
Sombre and brooding from the past they look back at us,
Almost accusing as if to say don't ask why;
What they have seen is between them and not us....
As a child I wondered why my grandfather looked so serious. I knew he had been in the war but didn't give it much thought. Now 'as if through a glass darkly' I see why.
