Albert, here is the letter that you wanted to see..and now Paul Foster is laid to rest on the same row as my Dad..albeit about seven graves away.
Thank you Maureen. You must set great store, by keeping this letter. A brave man. A courageous act, stopping a run away horse.
Maureen, our teacher at Thomas More School was Paul's son Tommy Foster. Around 1956 I remember him taking time off for his dad's funeral. Tommy was the Science teacher and quite popular
Thank you for that cordy..every comment builds up a story doesn't it.
Fascinating, Maureen! x.
Thank you Irene...he did stop another one later on,but I've forgotten where that one took place.
It makes you wonder where a runaway pony would escape from in a town centre! There were a lot of horse and carts about at the time though and I remember the 'horse muck' in the roads as well. Your dad was another brave Wigan man Maureen.
Thank you Veronica..my Dad was a big gentle man..and I can only hazard a guess that the horses were spooked by something or other..the poor things.
How fascinating. When I first saw it I just saw McGovern and Gt George St. I was going to Email you til I saw the messages.
It is a lovely story Maureen, and it was very commendable action of your Dad.I know you have great memories of your parents and growing up in Great George Street, good of you to share this.
Thank you very much Elizabeth and Marie.
Maureen, What a treasure for your family. I have traced my family tree on one side to 1800 in Ireland so I love anything like this.
