Thanks for the memories. Great stories of years gone by.
Enjoyed reading this - everything just as it was. What a good idea to leave for children and grandchildren.
I was born in 1934 and can relate to Bill.We have so many memories of growing up in that era, one of my quotes when asked my age is to Say." I went to school with my gas mask"
These really are treasured memories in script. All true facts. I was born in March, 1934. Is Ernest the oldest contributor on W.W.A.?.
Fascinating memories!
Irene. There is a shop in Blackpool that is a must for you. "Forties into the Naughty's". On the opposite side of the road from "Funny Girls'" night club.
Albert, in case you didn't realise, Ernest sadly died a few weeks ago. There was a comment on photo-a-day about it but I don't think there was a mention on the Album. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
RIP ERNEST.
Thankyou, Albert, for the info on the Blackpool shop. We are in Lytham for the forties weekend in August, but only doing the Saturday, (13th), as we have actually got a forties event at Haigh Hall on Sunday 14th, so may not have time to go into Blackpool. However, we will make a point of visiting the shop soon. x.
Thank you Irene for letting me know. Although I never had the good fortune to meet Ernest, in person. I feel as though I have known him many years. His scrip's were always enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. He will be sorely missed. May he Rest in Peace.
Jinksl and Albert, I'm sure Wigan World gave Ernest much interest and joy in the years he contributed, and he would have loved the post we are sharing, about life in Wigan in the 1940s and 1950, and would have added his own memories of those times. The Internet has a lot to answer for, but for ordinary, decent people, it has shown us old photos we would never have seen and given us a chance to share precious memories. Ernest obviously got much pleasure from contributing, and we will certainly never forget him! I join you in saying RIP, Ernest. x.
