Alan: I suppose the moral of this story is don't work that hard that you put your nose near the grind stone. Which when you think about it is an old famous Wigan saying.
This grave is in Dalston,Carlisle My Great Grandfather John was Headhunted with Robert, From Wigan for their skill and experience in spade making After the accident John retuned to Wigan and with his other two sons Edmund and John Peter and all 3 plied their trade at Wm Parkes Clarington Forge
John, Your right but,The stone in question was a 4ft Quarried stone which shattered and a part hit the roof and then Robert on the head No Elf & Safety measures those days
Alan: I have worked in some very dangerous environments and been very lucky, the most serious loosing the top of my thumb.
But at the time it was for my kids & a mortgage to get the money in you try and put the danger to the back of your mind and keep going forward.
Most lads in Wigan would have been in the same boat, that's why humor is the best way to deal with the ifs and may-be's then a silent prayer you came through unfortunatley Robert did not.
