Just found out that my Grandad was in trouble just before turning 13 years old with 3 other lads. I bet my Dad didn't know about this.

Interesting. Where you able to do online searches of the local newspapers Jeff, or did you go through microfilm records? Any details appreciated.

On-line searches for local newspapers are obtained on microfilm, but you have to go to Wigan, and book.

My niece's husband got me this info. He subscribes to the British Newspaper Archive website paying an annual fee.

What is the equivalent value of Five shilling in todays valuation. In 1950, five shillings was a my weekly pocket money. I was sixteen, working on the haulage, down the pit.
