The Sumner Cup was a competition based on camping and scouting skills and efficiency open to all scout troops in the Wigan area.
Looking at the photo ,Health and Safety wasn`t paramount in those days.
at year 23 teams entered and the winners were
1st , 1st Golborne (All Saints ) 324 points
2nd , 4th Wigan ,Queens Hall 273 points
3rd , Wigan St Annes 270 points

Still got my scout knife, bone handle and leather.
I wonder what they are allowed to do these days ?
cadge is about to split his leg open once he's cut through that log....
We came second in the Sumner cup.The custard we made was a bit lumpy. Very tricky to keep it runny in the middle of a field waiting for the judges.!!!
