I thought probably not, will keep you updated as he definately came from the Wigan area. Hopefully will get somewhere. Just waiting for marriage and birth certs to come through. Again thanks for trying to help me x
What year have you got his birth as Paula?
Were his parents Mary and Lambert?
richard hilton parents was lambert and mary but ritchard was born 1813 in aspul. me and lakeland are from differnt hiltons,
Roy -Richards fathers name (according to marriage certificate) was Richard also. Not sure on his mothers name yet. Richard was born in Ince nr. Wigan abt. 1845
Hi Paula, i have Mary as Mary Jolly and according to the 1851 census Richard is living with his parents at 115 Broom St Ince aged 5.
Thanks for that Roy, but Mary Jolley was married to Lambert Hilton. The Richard I am looking for was also born around 1845 in Ince, Nr. Wigan. His fathers name was also Richard not Lambert. The Richard I am looking for died around 1928 age 88 in Lanchester, Durham, (Richard, son of Lambert and Mary, died around 1906 in Wigan. I've had a few people helping me, and I am very grateful to everybody, but have come up against a brick wall. Will keep researching and let you know. Once again thanks
Yes Paula, Lambert Hilton and Mary Jolly married and living with their children including Richard in Ince.
Sorry Paula i'm getting mixed up between the two of you, i'll have another dig around.
Thats ok Roy, thank you. I have Richards marriage certificate and am trying to get his birth. Unfortunately I don't have his mothers name. He was married to Elizabeth Robinson in 1904 and his son John (my grandfather)was born in 1908, they were living in Lanchester, Co. Durham in the 1911 census.. Elizabeth was a widow to a Thomas Robinson, her maiden name was Telford. Richard was also married to another Elizabeth, also a widow (previous married name Hughes), not sure of her maiden name. They were also living in Co. Durham in 1901 Census. All children had surnames of Hilton but in earlier Census' they were Hughes and step children of Richard.
Ps. In the photo do you think he is wearing some sort of uniform?
Yes he was with a Welsh lady who had a few children, it could be a railway or bus uniform, but he worked in the pit didn't he. You'll get his mothers name from the birth cert wont you.
Yes I will and he was a pit man. I've applied to the main GRO for BMD's, but only information I had was an estimated year of birth and his fathers name and where he was born. Fingers Crossed
