A lovely photo, Albert.
My Mam and Dad used to take me to either Haigh Hall or Mesnes Park every Sunday. It would have been not too long after the above photo was taken that my brother Colin, 12 years my senior, "accidentally" bumped into us with his girlfriend, Pat, who was from Spring View. She had been shy of meeting my parents so Colin arranged it so we met up in the park. They were married in December 1961 when I was nine. I used to love going in the Park Café and it's nice to know it hasn't changed all that much.
Irene, Your brother was married a little under four months after I was. I was married on the, 2nd, Sept., 1961. The sun was scorching, in fact it was melting the road surface.
It certainly wasn't cracking the flags at our Colin's wedding, Albert.....it was cold and foggy, as it was on my own wedding day on 26th January 1974; my husband Peter says it's been foggy ever since! But we've made it to 40 years this Sunday.
Congratulations on your Ruby Wedding, Irene. "As the future years unfold, may your ruby turn to gold".
Thankyou, Albert.
