Albert..did you work at Eckersleys mill.
Albert; Have been there many times. 2nd Sept.1973 was on a Sunday and it was Invitation Day at Chorley Golf Club. Bill for two meals of soup, beef, peaches and coffee was £1.60.
Portland Harbour is nearby Portland Bill and have programmes for 1946 and 1961 `Attractive Steamer Cruises` from Weymouth Harbour Pleasure Pier. On August 13th 1946 I went on a cruise round H.M.Ships in Portland Harbour and a tour of the Roadstead from 11am to 12.30 and the fare was 3/-. The fare for the same cruise in July 1961 had increased to 3/6 !!
Your friend is dressed for a funeral or wedding!
You wouldn`t think that Land`s End is so far away but it`s 175 miles, by road, from Weymouth to Penzance.
No Maureen. I never worked at Eckersleys. Ernest. Inflation wasn't as rampant between 1946 and 1961, if the increase was only 6d, over a period of eleven years. Alex was always conservative in his dress sense.
Albert, I like the sound of Alex and his demeanour suggests he was a gentleman.
Sorry Ernest, my maths are getting diabolical. I should have stated fifteen years.
Ken. Alex was a gentleman. He never married. He lived with his mother, and brother Roy, who also never married. He always treated his mother with the utmost consideration, and kindness.
