Samuel Hall family of Dorning St Wigan. Back row L-R: Daur Mary( became Mrs Smith), son John, daur Nellie (became Mrs Lomas), son Tom, daur Annie. Middle row L-R: Lily Ostick, wife Ellen Rigby, husband Samuel, daur Maggie (became Mrs Farrimond - her son Eddie ran the Ship Hotel in Wigan). Front row L-R: son Billy (died young), son James. Samuel was a bellringer at All Saints Parish Church for 60 years.

They look a very well to do family. I suppose they would have to be to have photograph taken so early.

You have a point there Tom but I don't know whether they were well off. Sam, whose wife Ellen was my gt grandmother's sister, was a joiner who did work at All Saints. You can see Samuel Hall's peal board in the bell-ringing room in a series of photos in Wigan Parish Church section of the New Gallery taken by Brian.

My grandfather was james hall and lived in dorning street was a patten maker at walkers later walmsleys had a walking stick with gold top presented to his father for bell ringing at parish church

I wonder if I’m related , all my family on the Hall side were from Appley Bridge . My Grandfather was Eric Hall who had the brick works till it closed down. My father was Tony Hall. I think my great Grandfather was called John Hall.....other family were the Sharrocks and Kenyons . Anyone out there know any of these names?
