Looks like Norman his son shaking his hand and seeing him off.
it looks like Graham to me Bill. But i will bow to your better judgement.
I am Norman's Son, and this is my Uncle Graham with my Grandad and Grandma, my Dad couldn't get time off work. I was 7 when my Grandad died, but still have lots of amazing memories of being with him! I have recently been doing a lot of research into his career, getting photographs and reports he wrote of legends of that time from my Dad and Uncle. I've been buying programmes off the internet of games he took part in, and I have found 2 books he was in. This photograph was was when he was on his way to London to Referee the FA CUP Semi-Final at White Hart Lane, Tottenham. This resulted in a draw, and he then was Referee in the Replay at St Andrews in Birmingham 4 days later.
From the research I have done, it's amazing to think, my Grandad started his Refereeing career in 1948 in the Wigan Alliance and Wigan Sunday School League. In June 1950 he was promoted to the Lancashire Combination, and within a year was starting as Linesman with some of the top teams of that time! Then in June 1954, he was appointed to the Football League of Referees! Umbelievable to think within 6 years, from Refereeing his first game in Platt Bridge, to Refereeing the best teams in the best grounds all over the country!
