The uniform would suggest after WW2. Probably a National serviceman Catterick was the Royal Signals training unit
The medal ribbon he is wearing looks like the Africa Star, but difficult to tell in monochrome.
The badge on his left arm also looks very much like an 8th Army divisional arm patch from WW2 as well.
Is the address on the back the address of the property it was found or the address where the photo was taken, What does it say ? He has got a medal ribbon on his chest so I don't think he was a national serviceman.
As a post war National Serviceman he may have been eligible for the Korea medal, or the General Service medal for service in the Palestine/Malaya/Cyprus emergencies etc, but this isn't either of them.
It looks like a WWII campaign decoration - possibly the Africa Star, as I mentioned earlier.
A bit of research suggests this could be John Alfred Johnson, born in Ashton in 1920. His family lived at 200 Bryn Road in 1911. Plenty of Johnsons in my family tree but he's not one of them..,
