She wasn't related to Oswald and Edith Worthington was she ?

My Mother was a mancunian but she was friendly with an Edith who's maiden name was Valentine and she lived on Smalley Street, I can vaguely remember her husband as I think he passed away early in life and don't remember his name. There was some children, can't remember how many but I remember the girl, not sure if the lad's name was Eric. Before this family lived on Smalley St. they lived on the James Square district. There were quite a good number of Worthingtons in Standish (probably still is), I don't know if any were related, the connection may have been; way back in history they all came from 'WORTHINGTON'.

You have a good memory Peter. Edith did live on Smalley Street ( No 22 ) and her husband died early. Her maiden name was Valentine and she had 3 children, Elsie, Eric and Edna. Elsie died in 2003. She was my mother. The picture above put me in mind of my Nan's house and with your surname, I wondered were we distantly related. I think the pictures you have submitted are brilliant. They capture everything Wigan world is about. I walk round some of the places you captured, Whelley Jnc, 20 Bridges, Boars Head etc and its facinating to see how it once looked compared to now. Not changed for the better I think. I read somewhere someone on here said there is a book in all these photo's and I have to say I agree. Keep it up Peter.

WN1 Standisher:Sorry to hear Your Mother passed away. From what I remember, she couldn't have been much different in age to my sister, Janet,born 1946, died 2007. Am I right in thinking one of the girls used to travel with the Standish Morris Dance Troupe on their venues? I had two relatives with same names as were/are in your family from my Grandmother's side (my Father's Mother, Maiden name, Wilson), Oswald,(b.1898) son to Grandma's Brother,Christopher,(b.1867). One of Grandma's sisters was Edith Wilson (b.1880). My Grandma Jane Ann, born out of wedlock to Elizabeth Sutton, 1yr. later Elizabeth married the father James Wilson, Grandma then became a Wilson until she married a George Worthington, from Preston (not verified, still searching); and that could be the start of the Worthingtons on my side.
