Dennis this is another lovely photo and I am happy with the grown up Alice. I wonder if this was taken when they got married on 1 December 1923 at Haigh, with John Henry the bun in the oven. John Jackson was only 19,looks as if he's not even started to shave and is far too handsome to be a coalminer.

Kath, what have looks got to do with being a coal miner?. Is it because he is not covered in coal dust. They did wash you know.

Of course coalminers washed but there were no pit head baths then and he's oviously been in the tin bath before posing for his picture with the lovely Alice. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and John Jackson is every bit as handsome as the hearthrob of the day, known to us all as Rudolf Valentino! The dust going into his skin and scarring him is why I say 'too handsome to be a coalminer'.
