How did the poor girls manage to fasten them boots?.
They used to use a button hook, Dennis.
I remember my grandma (born 1895) telling me of how she used to sneak the button hook out of the house in summer, so she could take her boots off to paddle in the local pond.
Great photo Dennis
I loved the previous photograph of Alice and Elizabeth in their aprons and clogs and the way they are looking straight at you - I wanted them to speak to me and tell me what happened to them as they grew up!I checked the 1911 census and found them with their parents Thomas and Clara.I know that there had been an Elias and another Elizabeth and later in 1911 there would be a James. This photo has made my day! Please tell me about them and have you any other little gems, maybe of their mother?
Kath Arkwright, glad you liked the photo, the reason I have these photographs is because Elizabeth and Alice were my Mother's cousins. Sadly I don't have a photograph of their Mother but I do have a Photograph of their Father, Thomas and one of Alice as a young woman and I will post them on here. Alice married John Jackson in 1923 and had five children of her own but I don't know what happened to Elizabeth,
