The Guides are on their way to Rivington Pike, but they are said to be on Appley Bridge Station - which puts them on a rather roundabout route from Lower Ince.
Can anyone positively identify the station, please?
It actually looks like Lower Ince Station, there is a photograph of it on here somewhere, I will try to find it.
Not convinced it's Lower Ince:

Talking with a parishioner who knows her local railways (and can put names to faces from her childhood - she's 86 now), I think it's Blackrod - which would be right for a hike up Rivington, of course. See:

The windows look right, and the telegraph pole, signal gantry, and ramp up to the bridge from the other platform, all fit - but the doorway seems to have shifted - but this was around 1932, over 30 years before the pics on the website.
Yes,Rev David,I'm also quite sure it's Blackrod. The upper signal was for Lostock and Bolton and the right hand signal was for the line via Hilton House and Dicconson Lane.Bill.
Speaking of walking to Rivington as mentioned above, my mother remembered going up there in the late thirties and seeing the Pike defended by home guardsmen. Was that ceremonial or would that be a regular occurrence, does anyone know? Perhaps your parishoner would recall, Rev David? Those guides must have been expecting a dry day, looking at their footwear, but they do look smart.
