Hi Pauline, sorry to hear the sad news of your dad and mum. It was only a couple of weeks ago that someone asked if I knew anything about Eric.
I worked with Eric for a number of years during the fifties and sixties at the Pioneer Works in Newtown. He loved that AJS bike and had it fitted with a side car. Shortly after fitting the side car, he overtook a cyclist on Spring Bank and forgetting the side car sticking out aquired an extra passenger.
I have posted a picture of those days, hope that you recognise him as he put on some wieght since your earlier photo.
Sadly missed.
Hello harry, thought were talking about a different Eric at first i cant remember pioneer works being mentioned(maybe he called it something else?) yes heard the stories about the various bikes he had and how fast they went. He got the side car to accomodate the new little sprog ha, my sister. They use to fit three people and a lot of luggage and the kitchen sink on board for the holiday to south wales. lovely to hear from one of his work mates,he also worked at Paggets,Plesseys,Northern Counties and Rolcon Engineering amoung others, thanks for your reply.
Hi Pauline, Pioneer Telephones was the original firm and was bought out by Plesseys. I uploaded a photo of him taken in the firm, but it hasn’t appeared. Will have another go.
Hi Pauline...I'm also sorry to hear about your dad, a great guy. I think he had a cousin named Jim Turner that also worked at the Pioneer....Harry has forgotten to mention that Pioneer Works changed its name to A.T&E (Automatic Telephone and Electric Co Ltd) before becomming Plessey Ltd.....He's getting a bit forgetful in his old age...Don't tell him I said that!
Hello Bob, thanks for the comments its nice to hear from people he knew, im sure he must have mentioned your names but it hard to remember names isn't it. I Dont know if he had a cousin Jim but his brother was Jimmy but i dont think he worked at Plessey.
Sorry to hear your news. Just discovered "wiganworld" and saw posts by your Father re my family (Lewis's Ice Cream) Pity I didn't have the chance to chew over old times with him.
Hi lancs lass just noticed your comment, I think you may be confusing my dad with the eric turner that used to come on wworld of the same name as none of what you say sounds familiar? sorry for the confusion
