The photograph is of the Wigan Sea Cadets probably taken in the early 1940's. My late Father, Jack Cockrell (Jnr) in in the centre, back row. The Cadets were organised by Oliver Sommers (of Sports Shop fame). Not sure if he is the elder of the two Officers on the front row. Any one out there know who the rest of these lads are. My Father later did his National Service in the Navy from about 1945-1947.

Hi Dave The commanding officer of the sea cadets was my uncle Walter and my dad Stan used to help out whenever he could. I will ask mum if she knows who the officer in the front is

Hello Jennifer, I remember leaving a comment sometime last year about Mr Sommers and the Sea Cadets, Your Grandfather and Walter were great friends of my Grandfather, also Jack. It would be interesting to know some history of the Cadets and the people in this photo.

My Dad was a sea cadet but I think this was a little bit before his time.
I dont think that this is from the early 1940s, because Walter Somers was serving on the battleship HMS Rodney until after the war. I was in the Cadets when Walter was CO,loved every minute of it.
