What a wonderful picture. Wonder what he was saying to his dog? I have a pair of clogs like the ones he is wearing - but made in the 1980s. I have a pair of baby clogs from 1954.

I suspect this gentleman didnt need to be saying anything at all to his dog... dogs have a way of just "knowing". They love us unconditionally as long as we treat them humanely. What kind of dog is that? Just a mutt? Or perhaps a hound of some kind from the days before we started interfering with nature by using selective breeding for our own gains. The dog is gorgeous.

The lovely dog may have been a whippet but it looks a bit to tall, could be a smooth haired lurcher like our 'Little Ben' was. Lurchers & whippets were the working mans dog.

I now think maybe this an early greyhound( before we started manipulating the genes). They were used as working dogs. Selective breeding for racing around a track is a fairly modern transition in their long history. In any event, top picture!
