This photo was taken in India when Ellen was about 12. Her hand is on her mother (May Lena Graham/Ennis) shoulder in order to show off a new watch she was very proud of.

May Santus looks slightly Indian.

both Ellen and May were born in India. Ellen's father was Alfred Graham (d.1915) I don't know who May's mother is.

Sorry....as for year, I'm not sure. She was born 1914, and looks to be about 8-12?

Indra, maybe there is a British Army connection, many soldiers in India married Anglo Indian women. There must be a lovely story behind the photo, it would be good to know more....sadly people back then didn't think we would be interested...but we are.

There is a connection May husband was in the army, so I can find that marriage etc, but before that is near impossible :(
